The G.B. Pant Social Science Institute is a premier Research Institute in India established in 1980 under joint support of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) of the Government of India and the State Government of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.). It is unique in its concerns with both theoretical and applied research in social sciences, particularly in the fields of socio-economic development, popular culture, public policies and social technologies of modernity. It provides academic and professional training, guidance, consultancy and research feedback to scholars, agencies, institutions and government organisations concerned with development. The Institute has excellent facilities for seminars, workshops, and training programmes.
Goal ofthe Project
The goal of the project is to widen and deepen the democratic participation of the Dalits in the democratic arena of the country by expanding the Dalit Public Sphere and to create an interface between writers of Dalit popular booklets and other literary mainstream litterateurs and knowledge generators to widen the space of Dalit popular writings.
Objective of the Project
The objective of this project is to develop an effective ‘Dalit Resource Centre’ which will be the hub around which research and documentation of the knowledge base of marginalized Dalit communities, that is expressed through their popular booklets, will be stored. Various advocacy and interventionists activities will also be carried out for enhancing the democratic participation of Dalits and expansion of their public sphere.
